Psychotherapy in Nottingham

Welcome. My name is Peter Martin-Browning. I am a Therapist practising Gestalt and Integrative counselling and psychotherapy in East Nottingham, based at Mapperley.

I have practised Gestalt and Integrative psychotherapy and counselling at Mapperley in Nottingham for twenty years. I am a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist. If you are a therapist or counsellor, I also offer supervision of therapy and counselling.

"Who comes for psychotherapy or counselling?"

Those who need therapy may have been harmed by abuse, or be suffering from severe stress, or depression, or feeling distressed by their relationships. These are just a few examples of the many problems people bring. I believe that we all have within us, all the resources we need to change and grow. It's my task as a psychotherapist, to help you find those resources.

"What problems can be helped by Gestalt and Integrative counselling and psychotherapy?"

  • RELATIONSHIPS: Psychotherapy and counselling can help when you have difficulty in relationships, for example difficulty making or keeping relationships, or if you have anxiety in relationships, or perhaps have the same problems coming up in one relationship after another, or a difficulty with sexuality.

  • MOOD: Psychotherapy and counselling can help when you have mood problems such as depression, stress, difficulty with anger management or anxiety, when feeling lonely or unloved, or having fears or feeling "moody".

  • ABUSE: Therapy and counselling can help with the effects of abuse, whether sexual, physical or emotional, including abuse that happened in childhood or as an adult, and with effects of bullying. We include neglect as a form of abuse.

  • CRISIS: Therapy can help in a particular crisis like redundancy, a bereavement, family changes or a break-up or divorce.

  • EFFECTS OF A TROUBLED FAMILY: Therapy can help with lasting effects of growing up in a disturbed family such as low self-esteem, fear of closeness, anxiety in groups, suspiciousness or jealousy or feeling you don't fit in.

  • LACK OF PURPOSE: Therapy can help with lack of purpose or direction like drifting, confusion about where you fit in, problems with your career or the feeling you're stuck and can't move on.

  • GROWTH: Therapy can help with just growing. Some people come for Gestalt and Integrative counselling or psychotherapy even though they don't have a pressing problem, - they simply want to grow.

  • In twenty years practising psychotherapy and counselling, I have worked with a wide range of problems. In addition to many people with stress, depression and the lasting effects of abuse, I have worked with social and health care professionals affected by their work, people hurt by separation and abandonment, people struggling with the loss of a partner or sibling, people distressed by chronic illness or disability, and many other problems.
I have devised and taught courses in counselling and psychotherapy, and have led courses in the field of personal development. I have taught as guest tutor on established courses on counselling and psychotherapy, including the Gestalt therapy perspective on relationships and relationship counselling.
As a Gestalt and Integrative therapist I am very interested in the integrative potential of working with processes in the body.
